Zubair Syed, MD

President

Zubair A. Syed, M.D., is an Associate Professor in the Dept. of Family and Community Medicine at the UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas, where he also serves as the Residency Program Director and the University Hospitals’ Chief of Service for Family Medicine. Dr. Syed earned his medical degree at Al-Ameen Medical College in Bijapur, India. He completed a residency in Family Medicine at the Mid-Hudson Family Practice Residency Program in Kingston, New York. He specializes in preventive primary care, diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.

Dr.Syed brings a full commitment to Kashmer’s long-term vision to improve access to quality healthcare to the underserved areas of the valley, and educate our population in preventive care

Manejeh Yaqub, MD

SECRETARY
Manejeh Yaqub, is a physician scientist and a medical device industry clinical expert, specializing in Clinical Research, Clinical Development and Post Market surveillance activities for many important medical devices and biotechnology products. She earned her medical degree from Sher I Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar, spending her early training and practice years in Kashmir valley, before immigrating to the Silicon Valley, where she started working in the medical device industry as a Clinical Research Professional.
Manejeh has led many Medical Safety, Clinical Evidence and Clinical Development programs and groups, supporting product development, clinical trials, and post market vigilance activities bringing many important products from the bench to the market, in the Ophthalmology, Cardiovascular and Neurovascular space.
Manejeh has founded other Kashmir centric non-profit organizations, and was one of the core members of the group that founded Kashmer.  She envisions Kashmer as an important organization serving the unmet healthcare needs for the underserved in Kashmir valley, and as an important resource for healthcare professionals seeking diverse careers in the US, and forming a strong community for those that are passionate about healthcare projects in Kashmir and those willing to share their knowledge and journeys in an effort to enhance our understanding of key scientific developments that advance Medical Science.

Imran Nazir Mir, MD

Imran Nazir is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, Texas, where he also serves as the Program Director for the Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship Training Program. A graduate of GMC Srinagar. having completed his internship and pediatric residency at the Oklahoma University Children’s Hospital, Oklahoma City(2009-2012). He then obtained his fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at UT Southwestern (2012-2015).

Omar Baqal, MD

Dr. Omar Baqal is a Cardiovascular Medicine Fellow and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona, where he also completed Internal Medicine residency (2021-2024). Dr. Baqal served as Chair of the Resident Committee for the American College of Physicians (ACP) Arizona Chapter during residency. He earned his medical degree from Alfaisal University College of Medicine in Saudi Arabia, during which he completed research internships at Mayo Clinic and Columbia University Medical Center, NY. His interests include cardiac electrophysiology, healthcare leadership, and professional mentorship.

Adam Manzoor Qazi, MD

Dr. Adam Manzoor Qazi, an alumnus of ASCOMS & Hospital, Jammu, is presently undertaking his residency training in Internal Medicine at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center. His expertise in conducting research spans across the Adult and Pediatric demographic.

Usman Itoo, MD

Dr. Usman Itoo, an alumnus of ASCOMS and Hospital, Jammu, and currently a second-year internal medicine resident at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital. I’m interested in pursuing a career in interventional cardiology.

It’s an honor to serve as a board member of KASHMER. I’m committed to the betterment of society as a whole, with a special focus on supporting orphans and uplifting the most vulnerable in our communities, as well as providing medical care in resource-limited areas. I’m also passionate about providing mentorship to future generations, believing that guidance and support can shape meaningful futures.

With a deep-rooted emotional attachment to Kashmir and a strong sense of responsibility, I’m excited to work alongside fellow board members and supporters to help further KASHMER’s mission and contribute to lasting, positive change.

Ammer Shah, MD

Past President

Syed Ammer Shah M. Sc, M.D, F.A.C.S. is an Asst. Prof of Surgery in Div. of Surgical Oncology at Virginia CommonWealth University. His areas of focus include GI malignancies, including pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, Melanoma, Sarcomas and Endocrine Malignancies. His Lab focuses on T cell based treatment of solid tumors.

Arif Jan, MD

PAST PRESIDENT

Dr. Jan is a  Graduate of Govt. Medical College, Srinagar with further training in Internal Medicine in the United Kingdom and at Drexel University in USA. He currently works as Faculty in General Internal Medicine at Tower Health.

Dr.Jan is is excited to be part of the wonderful and dedicated Board at KASHMER where we all aim to fulfill our dream of improving healthcare and education of trainees in Kashmir.

Hakim Azfar Ali, MD

PAST PRESIDENT

Dr Ali serves as Associate Professor of Medicine in Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Division of Duke University, North Carolina.He graduated from Govt. Medical College, Srinagar and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Missouri. He did fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care at Albert Einstein Medical Center and in Lung Transplant medicine at Duke University.
His research interests include advanced lung disease, sarcoidosis and lung transplant.

Dr.Ali’s goal is to get KASHMER to a stage where it can bring together local and international talent to set up a state of art medical facility for the people of Kashmir
